Okay, I hope no one hurts me for posting a review of a Disney movie, especially when I'm not complaining because it is one of their sequals. Even though RETURN TO NEVERLAND was most certainly geared for younger audiences, it presents a new, and in a way, more serious look at the characters and situations they go through. The newest character Jane, Wendy's daughter, is our hero who's grown up too fast because of the World War (allowing Disney to actually throw some history into the mix) and ends up kidnapped by Captain Hook. All this you can see from the previews. But what they don't show you is a Peter Pan who finally realizes that girls are jealous around him, a Wendy that never entirely grew up, and a little girl who doesn't believe in fairies. Okay, if that doesn't sound completely cheezy to you then you'll enjoy this flick. However, the new sea creature is annoying (an octopus that warns you of it's presence by smacking its suction cups together), but the sum of the voices are close enough to the originals so as not to be irratating. The characters are still staying true to the book's outline of them, only with slight alterations so modern audiences can relate better. The reunion between Peter and Wendy is a million times less depressing than in James Barrie's book. The computer animation is impressive, but doesn't seem to fit in Neverland. The most impressive scene in the movie is on the trip past the Second Star to the Right in which the ship travels through a Kaleidoscope-like portal and sound clips from the first movie are played in the background. The events in the film pan out very quickly so any A.D.D. kids won't get lost. Not the greatest movie in the world, but definitely not bad.
