Saw "Queen of the damned" this weekend... a decent flick. Its not as bad as I'm sure as it will get reviewed, but it sure as hell aint no "Interview with the Vampire" either... Still, it was cool, visually rich and fun... somewhwre between gothic, 'Goth', industrial and MTV... Ok, I don't know where I'm going with this, but then the movie didn't seem to either. While it is a fun viewing, and I do recommend it (so Long as you don't pay full price), it lacked a certain something. There are plenty of characters and plenty of ideas going on (and Paul McGann, Dr.Who #8, as well as that chick from Farscape), but the story never gels; No one ever seems to know what they want, the pacing is a bit off (when there IS cool stuff, it rocks, its just the wait getting there), and you never get to know enough about anything or anyone. It just never knows what it wants to be as a film, and the characters are a testament to that, unsure of themselves or where their stories are going, just as the pacing meanders. Still, the money was there - with some cool nods to old school flicks like Nosferatu and so on, plus at least one decapitation (which automatically raises a movie's rating by at least a half a point by my system), I give it 3 !/2 out of five heads, er stars... Check it out.
